The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has fired yet another public servant with no reason given, the most recent being, now former Director of the Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission (CCAC), Dawn Holder-Cush.

In a letter dated October 15, 2020, from the Chairperson of the Commission, Dhanwanti Sukhdeo, Holder-Cush was fired with “immediate effect” in keeping with Clause 7 of her Agreement of Service.

Sukhdeo stated that she was “acting on behalf of the Government”. Holder-Cush was notified that she would be paid one month’s salary in lieu of notice and other allowances up to the date of termination. In a Facebook post, Holder-Cush stated that her firing was undoubtedly politically motivated and “cowardly”.

“After more than 4 years’ service to the Government of Guyana, I received this today from the new Chairman of CCAC Ms. Dolly Sukhdeo. I never wanted to work a day under this Administration but I had colleagues who encouraged me to remain. This is not the end. I am free as a bird to speak the truth… I will not go hungry. No reason given for my termination and that speaks volumes about those who cowardly put their friends to do their work. I worked with two Coalition Ministers and never had a problem. This carries the stench of political victimization,” she said.

Holder-Cush had last notified the media that she was in the process of advocating for a redrafting of the Hire Purchase Bill which would prevent Guyanese from losing millions due to the wrongful repossession of items of hire purchase.
