Two held for Kurupukari ganja bust

Police ranks in Lethem on Thursday acting on information received stopped and searched a lorry in front of the Kurupukari Outpost and found concealed in an ice box, several parcels containing ten thousand and twenty-six grams of suspected cannabis.

Two persons including the driver have been detained pending charges, police said in a release early Friday.

On Sunday last police ranks conducting a road block operation in front of the Beterverwagting Police Station, searched a motor car with five males including the driver and found a haversack containing 1.571 grams of suspected cannabis in the trunk.

The men were detained and subsequently released on bail ; legal advice has since been obtained to the effect that the driver alone be charged and he is expected to appear in court.
A further update will follow on both seizures, police said.
