Georgetown Seawall Beautification; Praise Turns to Scrutiny as Allegations of Corruption and Nepotism Surface

A recent beautification project on the seawall of the city of Georgetown brought praise and adulation to First Lady Arya Ali. The putative sponsor of the project basked in the limelight after the project’s completion, but recent revelations raise many questions regarding the First Lady’s involvement in a corrupt scheme and also bring to the fore yet another instance of the PPP’s inclination to promote corrupt practices and projects for the benefit of family and friends.

Unfortunately, the local media houses continue with their characteristic laziness and a general reluctance to probe and thoroughly investigate and expose corruption, The media seems content to attend and listen to the weekly rants and ravings of the corrupt megalomaniac Bharat Jagdeo who was exposed as a corrupt bribe-taker by Vice News and who also reportedly has significant financial interests in the operations of the omnipresent Sherriff Group of Companies which predictably, has operations in every facet of economic life from security to healthcare of the emerging oil producing state.

Initial investigations have revealed that the local vendors at the beautified site have been removed and replaced by friends and family. Two of the new stalls are allegedly owned by Ravin Singh a favorite friend and political supporter of the President and the First Lady. The new stalls owned by Ravin Singh are operated by his mother and the other, a bar, by a government-employed media employee. Numerous reports also confirm that the brother of the First Lady Arya Ali has also received hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in contracts including a recent no-bid contract after a mysterious fire at a local market site. It is notable that no accounting of the funds spent on this so-called beautification project has been provided to the citizens of Guyana. The PPP continues its plunder and theft of Guyana’s resources.
