The Rotary Club of New Amsterdam (RCNA) has commissioned another Public School Clean Water Project. This time the benefactor is the Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS), in New Amsterdam.
The august body with its motto “Making a difference” continues with its effort to make the country a better place as it puts every aspect of its motto into play with many humanitarian projects.
The project which is expected to benefit thousands of children was commissioned recently, at the school.
The implementation of the “Rotary Club of New Amsterdam Public School Clean Water Project which began in 2016 was the brainchild of Rotarian Roger Greenidge during his stint at the head of the organization.
The project works when raw water is collected and goes through a filtration process .The filtered water then goes to tanks where it is stored and released for drinking and cooking.
Speaking at the simple ceremony, RCNA President Tajpaul Adjodhea stated that the initiative is unprecedented in our public schools. He commended members of the club for coming up with initiative.
He gave a background of the work of the Rotary which he says benefits all. What more beneficial can one do than to do something that benefits children? He encouraged those in attendance which included Rotarians, teachers and students and members of the media, to join with the Rotary in helping a good cause.
“We are not only helping the young or elderly, or this school—when we serve, we are helping all of humanity.” He remarked.
Giving remarks, Education Officer Wainwright McIntosh who is also a member of the RCNA. Expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Department of Education. He thanked the RCNA for always going the extra mile.
The students were told to ensure that the facility is kept clean and functional so as to ensure reliable and clean water at all times.
Head Mistress Semone Ms Deflorimonte expressed profound gratitude to the RCNA. She was more than happy that the RCNA has partnered with the school in such a well thought out venture. She gave the assurance that the assets would be well taken care of.
Among schools benefitting so far are Canje Secondary School (CSS) where the pilot project was done, Berbice High and Manchester Secondary schools. Cumberland, Rose Hall Estate, Edinburg, St Theresa, Fort Ordnance, Number 2, All Saints Edinburgh and Mc Gowan primaries in addition to Edinburg and Number 2 nurseries.
The activity was chaired by Rotarian Nolan France, who thanked all those that contributed in one way or another to the success of the project and helping the Rotary give back to the community.
Over the years the RCNA has been playing a leading light in benevolent and Community activities in Berbice.
Recently the RCNA held a dinner in celebration of World Understanding and Peace Day.
