Dear Editor,

Congratulations to the learned Colonel Fairbairn Liverpool for his critical and exceptional work in the field of crime and policing, as examined and summarised by the Village Voice.

I harken back to the days when I was growing up in a police environment…intimately connected to all ranks in the police community.

It would have been rare to hear or find the corruption that prevails now….and if discovered the perpetrators would have been booted out. In the last of Commissioner Henry Fraser’s life (early 2000s) he was a tortured man, warning about the degradation of the Police Force.  Colonel Liverpool’s dogged advocacy covers the issues fairly and squarely…but is anyone listening?

Thank you Village  Voice!!…it seems that you are!! But what next? Significant reform in our police institution seems limited to changing the name of the police training school, to a dubious “college”..(imao).

Not appreciating the contributions, life and times of the distinguished Felix Austin …(among others of his ilk)… certainly will not hasten police reforms.

But, I look forward to the analysis in the third part …hoping that the conclusions help to pick away at the endemic issues that have condemned our country to absolutely ignoble ratings, where crime and policing in Guyana are concerned.

Thank you, Village Voice, for opening the door to a frank discussion…one too long overdue!

Yours truly,

I.C. Fraser

Son of an honest cop
