Santa Aratak popularly known as Santa Mission is the only Amerindian settlement located up the Kamuni Creek, a tributary of the Demerara River in region three. This village is located 25 miles from the capital city of Georgetown and is only accessible by boat and the ride allows visitors to enjoy the lush vegetation along the creek.

Yesterday, Santa Aratak collaborated with the outreach team of the West Demerara Regional Hospital to conduct their annual health fair and blood drive.

Residents of the closely knitted community benefited from the following services: family medicine, ear, nose and throat, physiotherapy, dental, examination,paediatric care, pharmacy alongside a blood drive, given the constant need for blood and blood products in the healthcare system.

Toshoa of Santa Aratak, Mr.Hilton Williams expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the team for providing optimal healthcare to the residents. He noted that today’s exercise lessens the burden of many who may not be able to readily access these services in the hinterland area.

Community Health Worker, Ms.Natalie Paterson also applauded the team for their invaluable service to the residents of Santa Aratak.

Mr.Calvin Roberts, coordinator of the medical outreach, stated that his ardent team is satisfied to have been able to provide healthcare services to the residents of santa arawak, since this is one of the objectives of the group. To take healthcare services to communities where healthcare is not readily accessible, especially the hinterland areas. He also thanked the Toshoa and residents of Santa Aratak for hosting them today.
