Former Commissioner of Police and minister of government, Mr. Winston Felix, blasted the Guyana Police Force for the claim they              conducted a Warrant Drive Exercise. The Force, in a social media post announced on Saturday, May 6, ranks of the Cove and John Police station carried out a Warrant Drive exercise around the station district.

The Police reported, during the exercise, several motorists and pedestrians were stopped but no warrant was executed. However, former Commissioner of Police Felix is questioning how such an exercise was conducted.

Posting his response to the Force’s page Felix advised “there should not be a warrant drive where no warrant was executed.”

Felix said during the 1970s he was a Constable at Cove and John Police Station and warrant drives were done with Sgt. 6364 Ramsaroop and at another time with W. 106 Sgt. Giles (Joy Cole). “We had our work well organised to catch/arrest hire car drivers with warrants as well as individuals.”

Something seems wrong, with all involved in that aspect of Police work, he noted.

“If a hire car, or in these days, a mini bus driver was not arrested in a warrant drive, there was either no drive or warrant.”

The Force said in their May  6 exercise no arrest was made, a fact that caused the former commissioner to express feeling ashamed. He chastised the Police  “to do better than to write that nonsense, ‘warrant drive…..but no warrant was executed.’”  You people, try and get that right, he counselled.
