Lindeners denounce actions of PPP Administration at meeting with PNC Leader

Leader of the People’s National Congress (PNC) and former President David Granger on Saturday met residents of Linden, Region Ten (Upper Demerara- Berbice) at the Linden Concert Hall and School (LICHAS).

During the meeting, the residents “denounced the daily lawlessness being displayed by the PPP regime over the past seventy days since it took office”, the party said in a statement.

The residents of the mining town pointed to “the unprovoked shooting with pellets and the discharge of tear smoke at peaceful protestors and squatters on the West Coast of Berbice and the East Cast of Demerara by the Police Force; the indiscriminate dismissal of professional public servants; the persecution and prosecution of Election Commission officials and the phenomenal escalation of deaths from Covid-19 as a result of the gross mismanagement of the public health sector, among other abuses.”

Granger, who was accompanied by Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon, General Secretary of the PNC Amna Ally and former Minister of Finance Winston Jordan thanked the residents on behalf of the APNU+AFC Coalition for the Region’s massive support in the recent General and Regional Elections, a statement issued by the PNC said. Region Ten secured over 19, 000 votes for the Coalition.

This was Granger’s first to the mining town after the March 2 elections.
The former President congratulated the two new, young MPs – Jermaine Figueira and Devin Sears – on their election to the National Assembly. He also welcomed the new Regional Chairman Deron Adams, Vice-Chairman Douglas Gittens and Councilors of the Regional Democratic Council and recognized the service of the Town’s Mayor Waneka Arrindell.

The PNC Leader urged the elected representatives to protect their respective councils and constituencies from the incipient administrative lawlessness that was daily becoming evident.

“Granger exhorted them to use their mandate in all official fora – National Assembly, RDC and Town Council – and the Party to provide for the people’s needs for public education by adopting distance-learning measures; public health, during the Covid-19 pandemic; public infrastructure including roads, bridges and street lights and new opportunities for youth employment and enterprise available through the Linden Enterprise Network (LEN) and the Guyana Youth Corps (GYC) initiated by the Coalition administration,” the statement said.
Granger also urged that the ‘Plan of Action for Regional Development (PARD)’ introduced during the APNU+AFC Administration be examined, expanded and executed throughout the Region.

Meanwhile, the former President presented congratulatory messages and tokens to the Region’s top National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) performers which included Britney Peters of One Mile Primary School who secured a place at Queens College and Madonna Alstine top student of Sub-Region Two who secured a place at President’s College.
