The Ethnic Relations Commission, (ERC), has extended best wishes for peace, joy and brotherhood to Christians and Guyanese everywhere to crown the spirit of the holiday season.

In a message the body said it is time again to celebrate the goodness of humanity with sharing and compassion. “The Commission steadfastly expects that the continued generosity for which Guyanese are known, and their humanitarian thoughts and prayers will be for the less fortunate. The birth of the Christ child in humble settings and later as the ascribed saviour of mankind, continues to be inspirational with his message of goodness and love for all humanity. The ERC encourages all to embrace the significance of Christmas which is relevant for a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural society like Guyana. Like many of our national holidays, Christmas has pierced religious barriers and participation is seen by Guyanese from all backgrounds. Such a positive development has served to provide opportunities to bring our people together,” the message read.

As friends, colleagues at work or relatives, make a silent and determined promise to promote tolerance and peace during and beyond the season. It is a duty that galvanises the efforts of all citizens with one desirable outcome – to achieve national harmony for the sake of our country.

The Commission nevertheless, cautions everyone in the midst of the observances and festivities to exercise utmost care to stay safe from COVID-19 and its mutating variants. Merry Christmas from the Ethnic Relations Commission!
