Police are investigating the alleged murder of Shimron Benjamin, a 21-year-old Porknocker of Quarry Top, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD).
The 17-year-old suspect who is from Four Mile Village, Port Kaituma, the same village where the alleged murder occurred early Tuesday morning was arrested and is currently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.
Enquiries revealed that around 00:30 hrs Tuesday, the victim was last seen alive, drinking High Wine along with the 17-year-old suspect, and both of them appeared to have been intoxicated.
At around 01:00 hrs this morning, a 64-year-old Farmer of S1A Junction, Four-Mile Village, saw the victim lying motionless in the grass with blood on his head about 30 feet from his home.
The farmer immediately informed Royston Bumbury, the 57-year-old Amerindian Toshao of Four-Mile Village, NWD, who came with his ATV and escorted the victim to Port Kaituma District Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor who pronounced him ‘dead on arrival’.
The victim’s body was examined, and it was observed that his face was bashed in. The body is at the Port Kaituma District Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination.
Police found a piece of rock with blood at the scene which is suspected to be the murder weapon.
