Over 63 Covid deaths in October

There have been 63 COVID-19 deaths this month as of October 16, pushing the overall death toll of the virus to 862. Meanwhile, deaths are still being recorded for September — Guyana’s worst month of COVID deaths to date — with the toll now at 172.

For October thus far, three fully vaccinated persons have died, 7 partially vaccinated persons died, 50 unvaccinated persons died and the vaccination status of three persons who died was unknown. For the year thus far, the number of COVID-19 related deaths per month are as follows: January – 13; February – 20; March – 36; April – 66; May – 98; June – 80; July – 68; August – 80; September – 172 and 63 deaths in October as of October 15.

The highest number of deaths for the month thus far occurred on October 9 with eight deaths.

This is premised on the fact that there were 108 new cases as of October 15, with 31 persons in the COVID-19 ICU. There were 3,614 in home isolation, 120 in institutional isolation and 22 in institutional quarantine.

Region Four has now recorded over 16,300 COVID-19 cases while Region Eight has the lowest at 539. The vaccination rate now stands at over 369,000 for the first jab and over 226,000 for the second leaving a gap between the two doses of over 143,000.
