Fire put out  on MV Barima

A midday fire on board the Motor Vessel (MV) Barima at Port Kaituma , North West District was quickly brought under control and extinguished by residents and staff of the Transport and Harbours Department ( T&HD).

Reports are that smoke was seen emanating aback the ferry shortly after midday. Staff of the T&HD and residents immediately sprang into action to save the vessel. The fire was eventually contained and extinguished. It is unclear what started the fire but an eyewitness reported that the vessel’s engine caught afire.

The ferry makes a fortnightly trip to Port Kaituma , ferrying goods and vehicles among other items. The T&HD also operates another vessel, the MV Kimbia to the North West District port of Kumaka.
