The tender process has opened for the construction of access roads to three landfill sites, forming part of an expanded sanitation and infrastructure drive.

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development announced that the roads will service landfill locations at Blairmont in Region Five, 10 Miles in Region Seven, and Bon Success in Lethem, Region Nine. Interested contractors are required to submit bids to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board by April 15, 2026.

Government said the initiative supports ongoing efforts to improve waste management systems nationwide by enhancing access to disposal facilities.

Additional roadworks are also planned for several communities, including Zorg-En-Vlygt, La Parfaite Harmonie (Laurentia Catherina), Lusignan, Zorg-en-Hoop, Manarabisi, and Mabura/Rockstone.

In the 2026 national budget, $7.9 billion has been allocated to advance a comprehensive solid waste management strategy, with emphasis on strengthening capacity at the local level.

Supporting measures already implemented include the deployment of compactor trucks to Regions One, Two and Four, along with the nationwide distribution of garbage bins aimed at encouraging greater public participation in maintaining cleaner communities.
