The Alliance For Change (AFC) has extended formal congratulations to the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) on the occasion of its first anniversary, recognising the role of political parties in Guyana’s democratic system.

In a statement issued by its Executive Committee, the AFC said the establishment and continued operation of political parties are “an essential part of Guyana’s democratic architecture,” noting that political organisation and participation are fundamental to representative democracy. Such participation provides citizens with avenues to engage in national debate, policy advocacy, and governance discourse.

The ALP, founded in 2025 by prominent politician and human rights activist Simona Broomes, has sought to champion principles of dignity, justice, and inclusive development. Broomes, a former minister in the A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) administration and founder of the Guyana Women Miners Organisation, has been internationally recognised for her advocacy on behalf of women and vulnerable communities, including being named a Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Hero by the U.S. State Department.

The AFC also reaffirmed its commitment to principled leadership, transparency, accountability, and people-centred development, particularly as Guyana continues to face economic, social, and governance challenges. Additionally, the party acknowledged the role of all constitutionally established political parties in contributing to democratic engagement and extended best wishes to the ALP as it continues its participation within Guyana’s democratic framework.
