The Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning (MOLMP) has taken note of reports circulating on social media regarding a fire at a building formerly associated with the Ministry of Labour on Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

This incident is most unfortunate and thankfully, no injuries were reported. While we regret the damage to property, it must be further clarified that regional operations of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning have been relocated to another facility, located at Grant 228 Vryman Erven, New Amsterdam Berbice, and this relocation has been in effect since February 2025.

The Ministry also wishes to confirm reports that the affected building has not housed or facilitated any of its regional services to citizens since that date.

The public is hereby reassured that all services remain uninterrupted and continue to be available at the current Vryman Erven edifice.

For any inquiries or assistance, please contact the New Amsterdam location at Telephone: 500-2185

The understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders is deeply appreciated.
