Woman shot by armed bandits at Bourda Market

…relieved of handbag containing $70,000 cash and mobile phone

A 51-year-old saleswoman of Garnett Street, Newtown was on Saturday morning shot by an armed bandit while shopping at a stall near Bourda Market.

According to reports, at about 10:45h the victim, Sheriza Gourga Regis was at the intersection of Bourda Street and North Road shopping when two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, on a red and white XR motorcycle, approached her from the east on North Road.

The pillon rider came off the motorcycle, approached Regis and demanded she hand over her hand bag which was across her left shoulder. Regis refused and the suspect pulled the bag away from her and discharged a round in her direction. The woman was hit to her left abdomen.

The handbag contained $70, 000 cash and mobile phone. The bandits fled the scene on the motorcycle.

Regis was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a conscious state. She has been admitted as a patient.

Investigations are ongoing.
