Policy Forum Guyana Has Never Received Funding from the European Union (EU)

Policy Forum Guyana (PFG) was recently the subject of a misleading column in the Guyana Chronicle on December 5. As a State-owned newspaper, the Chronicle’s report coincided with ongoing efforts by the Government of Guyana to undermine PFG’s role as the selector of the civic component of the Guyana Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (GYEITI). PFG’s office is based at the Guyana Human Rights Centre.

While PFG does not intend to engage in a protracted back-and-forth regarding the numerous factual inaccuracies in the column, one specific claim requires correction. The article alleged that “PFG is in receipt of hundreds of millions of Guyanese dollars through the EU Embassy in Georgetown so it could buy a building of its own.”

This allegation is completely false. Policy Forum Guyana has never received financial support from the European Union (EU). For those seeking confirmation, we encourage a simple verification with the European Union Ambassador in Georgetown at 226-4004 for an impartial and authoritative statement.

PFG remains committed to transparency, accountability, and it’s civic role within GYEITI, despite attempts to discredit the organization.
