Port Mourant man sentenced to 30 months in jail for Break and Enter and Larceny

A 41-year-old Ankervill, Port Mourant, East Berbice – Corentyne (Region Six) man was on Monday sentenced to 30 months in jail for Break and Enter and Larceny committed on three places.

The man, Gopaul Singh was arrested on January 21, 2021 and charged on Monday, January 25, 2021 with two counts of Break and Enter and Larceny committed on Gannis Pritipaul’s grocery shop, two counts of Breaking and Entering on Samatha Maripeen’s house and two counts of Break and Entering the Shivashram Saga Mandir.

Charges laid under section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law Offence Act Chapter 8 :01 and section 232 (a) of the Criminal Law Offence Act Chapter 8 :01.

Singh appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Albion Magistrates’ Court where the charges were read to him. He was not required to plea to the charges.

Police in a statement said that the “AJA was applied and he pleaded Guilty to all six counts and was sentence to 30 Months in prison.”
