I have once again taken note of the outrageous and disparaging remarks made by Dr. David Hinds in reference to my character. While I am no stranger to critique, I will not allow unfounded commentary to go unanswered.
Let me remind Dr. Hinds and the public that I come from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), the party that proudly led Guyana to independence under the indomitable leadership of its founder, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham. Burnham was a statesman who resisted colonial domination and fought for a sovereign, unified Guyana. His legacy stands as a testament to the strength of multi-ethnic leadership and national development.
It is in this spirit that I declare clearly and firmly to Dr. Hinds “Massa day done.” I am not no “Bai” – I am a man, a father, and a leader with a visible and committed presence in various communities across Guyana. I am no token, no footnote. My voice and work are grounded in the lived realities of the people I represent and serve.
I do not deny that Dr. Hinds has made contributions to the national discourse. However, when his commentary drifts into the realm of divisiveness or condescension, I will not hesitate to call him out. Being a constant critic from the sidelines, without taking responsibility for nation-building, borders on parasitism. That path cannot lead Guyana forward.
I will not demand a public apology—I know better than to expect sincerity where it does not exist. But I urge Dr. Hinds to reflect on the legacy of Forbes Burnham, who envisioned a Guyana not of one race, but of many—united, not divided. Dr. Hinds, if you see yourself as a leader, then act like one. Confront our national issues with maturity, not malice.
I seek no permission or validation from you. Whatever I have done and continue to do is for the people of Guyana. My conscience is clear, my resolve is firm, and I stand by every word I have said.
Let us move the conversation forward—not with personal attacks, but with substance, vision, and a shared commitment to the people of this nation.
