Georgetown, Guyana – March 2025 – The students of St. Rose’s High School now have an exciting new opportunity to dive into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), thanks to the generous funding of the St. Rose’s High School Board of Governors. The launch of the school’s STEM Club marks yet another milestone in Guyana’s rapidly expanding movement toward innovation, technology, and digital literacy in education.
With the world moving toward a technology-driven economy, the STEM Club at St. Rose’s is designed to ignite creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking among students while giving them hands-on experience with coding, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and other advanced technologies. The initiative aligns perfectly with Guyana’s vision of building a 21st-century workforce, ensuring that young minds are prepared to seize future opportunities in high-paying, high-tech careers. The club is lead by 6th form student Zakiya Newton who is also an intern with the STEMGuyana organization.
Across the country, STEM education is transforming the way students learn, think, and apply knowledge to real-world challenges. The movement has been driven by the STEMGuyana organization, which has played a pioneering role in promoting robotics, coding, and digital education in schools, community centers, and innovation hubs.
While STEM education includes science and math, it is also about problem-solving, teamwork, and improving students’ ability
to think critically and creatively. With Guyana’s economy booming due to its oil and gas resources, there is an urgent need to equip students with the knowledge and technical skills necessary to compete in the global job market.
The launch of the STEM Club means students at St. Rose’s High will have direct access to:
– Hands-on Robotics and Coding Projects – Encouraging logical thinking and computational skills.
– Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – Understanding the power of AI in shaping the future.
– Mathematics and Engineering Applications – Strengthening analytical thinking.
– Creative Problem-Solving – Developing real-world solutions for modern challenges.
By learning these advanced skills early, students will improve their career prospects and help Guyana build a knowledge-based economy where technology and innovation lead development.
The St. Rose’s Board of Governors, recognizing the urgent need for technological literacy, has stepped up to sponsor this initiative, ensuring that students have access to the equipment, mentors, and training. This investment in young minds highlights a deep commitment to education, progress, and national development.
