Gunmen rob Mahaica Businessman, two others of cash, jewelry and phone cards

A 49-year-old businesswoman of Riverview Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and two other persons, were on Saturday held at gunpoint by two bandits, and robbed of their valuables, including cash, jewelry and phone cards.

The robbery was allegedly committed at around 12:15hrs at Riverview.
The Guyana Police Force, in announcing that an investigation has launched into the armed robbery, disclosed that the businesswoman, Pramkumarie Singh, was robbed of G$300,000, a quantity of GT&T and Digicel phone cards, one gold ring and gold band value $20,000 and one IPhone.
The other victims, 29-year-old Nardia Singh and 24-year-old Kunti Singh also suffered losses. Nardia’s wedding band and gold chain, valued at $46,000, were taken along with an IPhone. Kuntie’s two gold rings, valued $30,000, were also stolen. The robbery was committed by two men, one of whom was armed with a hand gun.

Based on investigations, the businesswoman was operating her grocery shop on the lower flat of a two storey wooden and concrete building, when the suspects entered the shop.

The bandits reportedly ordered two beers, and were subsequently served, however, one of the suspects requested a change of beverage.
“The victim was about to hand over the beverage when the suspect who was armed and unmasked jumped through the hole at the counter facing west and held them at gun point and demanded cash and jewelry. He then lashed the victim to her chin and left side face while demanding cash and jewelry,” the Police reported.

The Police added: “the other suspect the enter the shop through the southern door and they took out the cash and cell phone cards from a draw and proceeded to assaulted the other victims and took away their personal items.”

The armed bandits then took another victim to the upper flat and later returned to the lower flat, before making good their escape.
Investigations are ongoing.
