Hana Mohamed, Office Manager in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, has reportedly been arrested again by the Guyana Police Force, according to information received by this publication.
The circumstances surrounding her latest arrest remain unclear, and this publication is seeking further information on the matter.
Hana’s reported re-arrest comes just hours after she was released on bail following her detention on Wednesday in connection with a complaint alleging damage to a vehicle belonging to Senior Superintendent of Police Prem Narine, head of the Guyana Police Force’s Special Branch.
Her sister, Hadiyyah Mohamed, had disputed the allegation, claiming that video footage showed the vehicle leaving the scene with both mirrors intact.
The latest development comes amid heightened controversy surrounding the arrest of Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed, Hana’s brother, who remained in police custody following his arrest on Wednesday.
Azruddin Mohamed, leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, was detained in connection with a police investigation into an alleged G$800,000 payment to a police constable for surveillance footage relating to an October 12 incident involving Narine.
The Opposition Leader has disputed the police account of how he obtained the footage, maintaining that members of the Special Branch provided the recordings to him.
The arrests have drawn criticism from political activist Burke, who has alleged that Azruddin Mohamed is being held to prevent him from participating in protests during the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Guyana. Burke has called on Guyanese to engage in mass protests over the arrests and what he described as government abuse of the police force.
This is a developing story. Further details will be published as they become available.
