A 731-page regional treatise, with a public register of how every case it relies on was checked
The Sovereign Press has published Caribbean Construction Law: A Regional and Comparative Treatise by Robert D. Forrester, LL.B. The book states the law that governs building contracts, public procurement, payment, bonds and disputes across the Commonwealth Caribbean, written from Guyana for the region.
Robert D. Forrester, LL.B.
The treatise runs to 731 pages in nine Parts and 58 chapters, with every paragraph numbered for citation. It covers the contract forms used on Caribbean projects, including FIDIC and the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board’s own conditions in Guyana; procurement law and the review of tender decisions; surety bonds, insurance and project finance; and dispute resolution, including Guyana’s Arbitration Act 2024. The law is stated as at 24 April 2026.
Alongside the book, the Press publishes an open Verification Register at thesovereignpressgy.com/verification. It records, for every case the treatise relies on, what was checked, when, and against which source: 148 of 149 cases are citation-checked, and 57 have been checked against the judgment for what they actually decide. The register grows with each correction cycle, and corrections are published in a public record.
“A construction contract in the Caribbean is governed by statutes, standard forms and judgments spread across the region’s jurisdictions and rarely read together. This book puts them in one place. It also shows its working: you should not take a legal text’s word for its authorities, so every case this one relies on is listed, with what was checked, where anyone can read it,” said Robert D. Forrester.
The book is published as a digital Reader’s Edition (ISBN 978-976-8369-24-6), licensed one key per reader, with each reader’s copy stamped with their name. It is priced at GY$31,500 (USD 150 outside Guyana) per reader, and GY$25,200 (USD 120) for members of partner professional bodies or on orders of five keys or more. Until 25 October 2026, the first fifty keys are available to any reader at the Founding Readers rate of GY$25,200 (USD 120). A numbered Subscribers’ Edition of fifty copies, bound in quarter leather, is available by subscription until 31 December 2026. A free Reader’s Sample is available at thesovereignpressgy.com/ccl.
