ROAM ELECTRIC: KENYA MODEL FOR GUYANA

ROAM ELECTRIC — AN IDEA FOR A GUYANESE ENTREPRENEUR WITH USD $50,000

ROAM ELECTRIC is a pioneering ELECTRIC MOBILITY COMPANY IN AFRICA, starting in KENYA, with a MISSION to deliver Affordable, RELIABLE and Clean transport solutions designed for the REALITIES of Emerging Markets.

ROAM Electric MOTORCYCLES

THE BEGINNING

Roam designs ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES and BUSES for emerging markets, starting with KENYA. Their VEHICLES cut emissions by over 80% and reduce costs for users.

To support adoption, they provide charging, fleet software, and after-sales service, built for local needs, and their work spans FOUR KEY SEGMENTS:

Roam AIR

An electric MOTORCYCLE designed in Africa, specifically for the African terrain and market needs.

Roam TRANSIT

A PUBLIC TRANSPORT SOLUTION focused on producing electric buses for cities and towns across Kenya and Africa.

Roam ENERGY and CHARGING

A segment dedicated to distributing RELIABLE ENERGY SOLUTIONS and accessible CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE.

Roam CANOPY

A software platform offering INTELLIGENT TOOLS for fleet managers, businesses, financiers, and logistics operators.

ROAM Electric BUSES and MOTORCYCLES

PURPOSE-BUILT FOR IMPACT

ROAM builds electric vehicles to replace Africa’s most polluting public transport, delivering cleaner, MORE AFFORDABLE MOBILITY for MILLIONS.

An Ecosystem Approach

Roam powers the full ecosystem: energy, software, and support, for seamless, SCALABLE adoption.

A New Approach

Across East Africa and the continent at large, MOTORCYCLES and BUSES are ESSENTIAL. That is why Roam is accelerating the shift to affordable, sustainable electric transport.

They design, develop, and deploy affordable, clean vehicles for the millions who rely on public transport daily.

Their approach is grounded in LOCAL EXPERTISE: Made in Africa, for Africa.

With deep knowledge of regional terrain, industry dynamics, and spare-parts access, KENYAN ENGINEERS are uniquely equipped to build the solutions Africa needs.

Their philosophy is simple: the BEST PRODUCTS for Africa must BE BUILT in Africa.

The Future

Roam has proven that electric transport works, financially and practically, even in the toughest terrains.

Their vehicles help customers cut fuel costs while reducing emissions and tackling climate change.

They are just getting started. As they expand GLOBALLY, their FOCUS remains on simplifying deployment, improving fleet performance, and lowering costs.

In the decade ahead, they are committed to delivering lasting impact for communities and the planet.

ROAM ELECTRIC – KENYA MODEL FOR GUYANA

Roam is a SWEDISH-KENYAN STARTUP, founded in 2017 as Opibus. It started by converting Land Cruisers to EVs for safari operations and now makes Africa’s own EVs.

Roam AIR

Electric motorcycle for boda-boda taxi riders.

Air V2: Two batteries, 100–120 km range, 240 kg load, 45-minute fast charge, owns battery with GPS tracker. Not battery swap.

Roam MOVE / RAPID

51-seater electric bus, 170 kWh battery, 1.5-hour charge, for matatu public transport.

Roam PARK

10,000 sqm plant in Nairobi; assembles 12–15 bikes/day now, with capacity for 50,000/year, including a battery lab and local sourcing of 40% of parts.

BUSINESS MODEL

Partnership with fintech M-KOPA for daily micro-payments, Uber/Bolt for riders, and TotalEnergies for charging at gas stations, supported by a solar-powered charging network.

They now have 3,500 BIKES on the road since 2017, and Kenya’s e-motorcycle share went from 0% to 10% of new registrations by 2025.

IDEA FOR A GUYANESE ENTREPRENEUR WITH USD $50,000

DO NOT COPY Kenya boda-boda exactly. GUYANA’S ANGLE IS DIFFERENT:

GUYANA VERSION = “ROAM GUYANA – ELECTRIC MINIBUS + DELIVERY + MINING SUPPORT”

1. E-Delivery Fleet

Georgetown has 1,000+ motorbike delivery persons for Chinese food, pharmacies, attorneys, accountants and courts.

Fuel is $1,100/gallon.

Offer Lease-to-Own e-bikes at G$1,500/day vs. G$3,000 fuel.

2. E-Minibus Last-Mile

Convert a 15-seater minibus route Sophia → Stabroek to an electric shuttle.

Guyana Power & Light tariff is HIGH, BUT still cheaper than DIESEL.

3. E-Conversion

Instead of IMPORTING FULL BIKES, import CKD KITS and assemble in UG TURKEYEN, ECD AREA, like Roam does.

Claim 0% excise on EVs as per GRA 2024 budget.

4. Charging at Rubis/Sol

Copy the Roam × TotalEnergies model.

Put chargers at Rubis stations and collect payments via MMG.

SWOT FOR GUYANA ROAM MOTORCYCLES

STRENGTHS FOR GUYANA

  • Oil money + Government green agenda: Duty-free for EVs, 0% VAT on electric motorcycles under 2024 budget.
  • High fuel cost, short distances: Georgetown to Providence is 10 km — perfect for 120 km range.
  • No local competitor: No e-bike assembler in Guyana or Suriname.
  • Diaspora: You in NY can link US used EV technology + Guyana market. NY USA INC can apply for USAID / IDB Lab climate grants.
  • GPL 90% fossil BUT still cheap vs. diesel at pump.

WEAKNESSES FOR GUYANA

  • No boda-boda culture: Guyanese do not use motorcycle taxis, so NEED TO CREATE MARKET.
  • GPL blackouts: Unstable grid — need solar charging backup.
  • Skills gap: No EV technicians. Need to train like Roam did with 20–30 technicians hand-building bikes WITH UG ENGINEERING SKILLS.
  • Bad roads + flooding: Battery water-damage risk in Georgetown floods.
  • Battery import cost + no recycling plan yet.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR GUYANA

  • Carbon credits: Guyana sells forest carbon. E-mobility fits Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030 — apply for A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
  • Mining: Small miners spend $1,000s on fuel to run to pits. Silent e-bikes for camp runs = huge saving, no fumes.
  • CARICOM export: BUILD in Guyana, SELL to Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, where fuel is also high.
  • Government contracts: 200 electric school buses promised by Government — to be local maintenance partner.
  • M-KOPA model: Use IPED + GBTI for hire-purchase. Guyanese love hire-purchase.

THREATS FOR GUYANA

  • Used ICE bikes from China/India: $200K GYD vs. e-bike $800K GYD upfront — price shock.
  • Minibus lobby: Route 44 owners will not let electric buses take over without fighting.
  • Government policy reversal: Kenya tried to remove zero-rated VAT and Roam warned price would jump from Sh290K to Sh336K. Guyana could do the same IF oil lobby pushes.
  • Battery degradation: Tropical heat + humidity — warranty claims.
  • China dumping cheap e-bikes directly via Alibaba: You get undercut if you assemble locally.

HOW TO START SMALL IN GUYANA WITH USD $50K

1. MONTHS 1–3

Import 10 Roam Air-type bikes from China (CKD).

Partner with UG Technical Department for an Assembly Lab in Turkeyen, ECD Area.

2. MONTH 4

Pilot with 10 delivery riders.

Track fuel savings with a Roam Explorer-type app.

If a rider saves G$15K/day, he will evangelize, SHARE experience WITH OTHERS for MULTIPLIER EFFECTS.

3. MONTH 6

Pitch to GPL + Office of Climate Change for five solar charging containers at Kitty, Sophia and Eccles.

4. YEAR 2

Scale to 100 bikes.

Apply to IDB for a $500K GRANT as “Electrifying Guyana’s Last Mile.”

BOTTOM LINE

Kenya PROVED you DO NOT need Tesla.

You need a BIKE that carries 240 kg of FOOD, FRUITS, VEGETABLES, and DOCUMENTS and saves a poor man/woman fuel money.

In Guyana, that man/woman is a delivery rider, a miner, and a market vendor.

INVESTOR PITCH DECK

PROJECT

ROAM GUYANA – Guyana’s First E-Mobility Assembly PILOT

SEED RAISE: USD $50,000

10 Bikes | 1 City | 100% Data-Driven

THE PROBLEM – WHY NOW

Guyana has OIL, but Guyanese pay the price.

  • Fuel: G$1,100/liter ($5.25 USD) — highest in CARICOM after import taxes.
  • Delivery rider: Spends G$3,000–4,000/day on fuel = G$90K/month = 60% of income.
  • Miners & Farmers: 40% operating cost is diesel for small transport.
  • GPL Grid: 90% diesel-generated; BUY e-bike is still 70% cheaper than gas per km.
  • Flooding + Noise: Georgetown flooded, gas bikes pollute and are noisy.

“A bike that saves me $60K a month, I will switch tomorrow.”
— Georgetown delivery rider interview

THE PROVEN MODEL – ROAM KENYA

DO NOT INVENT, ADAPT what works in AFRICA.

Roam Electric, Nairobi, KENYA: Founded 2017, now 10,000 sqm plant, 15 bikes/day, capacity 50K/year.

COMMENT

KENYA PROVED you DO NOT NEED a BILLION DOLLARS to change transport.

You need 20 technicians, a RENTED shed, and a bike that saves a boda rider $2 a day.

That $2 is his child’s school fee, his mother’s medicine, his future.

GUYANA is the same story, just with OIL.

GUYANA WITH the OIL money, but our people still pay $5 a liter to move.

Delivery PERSONS burn half their wage on gas.

Miners breathe fumes.

GUYANA EXPORTS crude and IMPORTS debt.

Roam Guyana says: Enough.

For USD $50,000 — less than the price of one used Land Cruiser in Georgetown — EMPLOY 10 Guyanese on electric bikes that cost 70% less to run, train 5 young people — including our daughters — to build batteries and prove that a Guyanese in NEW YORK and a Guyanese in GEORGETOWN can build something that DOES NOT depend on Exxon.

This is not about motorcycles. This is about showing that Guyana’s FUTURE can be Built in Guyana, By Guyanese, For Guyanese.

Roam Kenya started in 2017 with a Vision, Team, Plan, Resources and Execution and TODAY they have a 10,000 square meter FACTORY.

DO Let us start in 2026 with 10 bikes at Turkeyen, ECD. The next 10,000 will be made in PROVIDENCE, East Bank Demerara, GUYANA.

Beyond OIL. Beyond TALK. On The ROAD. INVEST in Roam Guyana.

ROAM GUYANA- Concept LOGO design.
