Dear Editor,

I have been a member and supporter of the People’s National Congress (PNC) for the past 54 years. During that time, our party has faced many difficult periods, but I have never witnessed a crisis as deep and damaging as the one we face today.

It is time for the Central Executive to honestly assess where the party stands.

Leadership must be judged by results, and many supporters believe that under Aubrey Norton’s tenure, the party has steadily declined. Membership and public support appear to have eroded, while the party has struggled to present itself as a strong and effective alternative to the government.

An effective opposition should not only criticise the government but also inspire confidence by advancing clear policies, offering practical solutions, and defending the interests of its supporters. Many party members feel that the PNC has not moved the political needle in a meaningful way and has instead allowed the government’s narrative to dominate public debate.

For the good of the party, personal ambition must never take precedence over the organization’s future. Leadership is about service, not position. If a leader can no longer unite, inspire, and expand the party’s support, then it is time to consider a transition.

In my opinion, Dr. Terrence Campbell possesses qualities that could help rebuild the party. He is articulate, measured, and has the potential to appeal to a broader cross-section of Guyanese. If the PNC is to renew itself and regain the confidence of its traditional supporters while attracting new voters, the party must be willing to embrace fresh leadership and a renewed vision.

The future of the PNC is more important than the future of any one individual. If we truly love this party, we must be prepared to make difficult decisions in its best interest. Renewal begins with honest self-examination, courageous leadership, and a commitment to putting the party and the people of Guyana first.

Yours truly,
Terry Stewart
