PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has pointed to the latest COMPSTAT report as evidence of progress in the Government’s anti-crime strategy, highlighting the 15% decline in serious reported crime.

In a social media post on Friday, Persad-Bissessar said the figures showed that Trinidad and Tobago was becoming safer under her administration’s approach to tackling crime.

Persad-Bissessar said the latest TTPS data showed serious crimes had declined from 6,469 incidents between January 1 and July 20, 2025, to 5,514 during the corresponding period this year, a reduction of 955 offences.

“The data clearly shows a safer T&T in 2026 with a nationwide decrease in serious crimes,” the Prime Minister stated.

She highlighted that the largest reductions were recorded in the Northern Division, where serious crime declined by 32%, followed by the North Eastern Division with a 30% decrease. Eastern and Central divisions each recorded 22% reductions.

Persad-Bissessar also noted that the 2026 figure represented 1,217 fewer serious crimes than were recorded during the corresponding January 1 to July 20 period in 2024.

The Prime Minister linked the reduction in serious crime to the Government’s wider anti-crime strategy and the ongoing state of emergency.

“This data on serious crimes declines combined with the data showing that there has been approximately 400 LESS murders than projected in 2025 to July 2026 clearly shows that the TTPS and Government are making steady progress with anti-crime efforts during the SoE.”

Persad-Bissessar, however, acknowledged that further work remained to reduce crime.

“Trinidad and Tobago is becoming safer but there is still a lot of work ahead to bring down the numbers further.”

She also commended members of the protective services and appealed for continued public support.

“I encourage citizens to support our protective services who are working diligently to bring safety, security and happiness to our communities.”
