ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Defending champions Barbados have extended their advantage at the top of the standings in the 2026 Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 50-Over Championship by maintaining their unbeaten record through three rounds of the tournament.
A convincing 63-run victory over Guyana lifted Barbados to 22 points, stretching their lead from 2.6 points to 6.2 points as the race for championship honours gathers momentum.
The biggest movers after Round 3, however, were the Leeward Islands, who climbed from third to second place on 15.8 points following a commanding 144-run victory over the Windward Islands.
Jamaica also enjoyed an upward surge after defeating Trinidad and Tobago, moving into third position on 12.6 points by virtue of a superior net run rate. Trinidad and Tobago, who began the round in second place, slipped to fourth despite finishing level on points with Jamaica.
The Windward Islands and Guyana remain fifth and sixth respectively on 3.8 and 3.6 points, with both teams still chasing their first victory of the tournament.
Barbados’ captain and opening batter Gadson Bowens remains the competition’s leading run scorer, while Leeward Islands opener Tanez Francis continues to occupy second place in the run aggregates. Joining the leading pair is Barbados’ number three Jordan Graham, thanks to his composed 78 from 101 deliveries against Guyana, which propelled him into third position in the overall run-scoring standings and played a key role in Barbados’ third-round victory.
The race for the leading wicket-taker has also intensified. Trinidad and Tobago left-arm fast bowler Daniel Holder remains at the top of the standings with nine wickets, while Jamaica’s medium pacer Jahdae Moore has surged into a share of second place alongside Leeward Islands seamer Matthew Miller. Moore’s outstanding figures of 3 for 10 against Trinidad and Tobago lifted his tournament tally to eight wickets, matching Miller’s haul after three rounds.
The championship’s bonus points system continues to have a significant impact on the standings. Barbados have accumulated 10 bonus points to complement their three victories, while the Leeward Islands’ rise to second place has been fuelled by 7.8 bonus points.
Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago have each collected 4.6 bonus points, while the Windward Islands and Guyana have so far earned all of their tournament points through the bonus system.
With two preliminary rounds remaining before the placement matches, Barbados have established themselves as the team to beat. However, with just 3.2 points separating second and fourth places, the contest for a place in the championship final remains finely balanced, setting the stage for a thrilling finish to the preliminary phase.
