Youth nabbed with 71.3 grams suspected cannabis at Providence

At about 00:15hrs on Wednesday ranks from the Providence Police Station were on patrol duty in the #1 Sub Division in a Force motor vehicle, proceeding east along Red Road Providence, East Bank Demerara.

In the vicinity of Massy Store, one of the patrol ranks observed an identifiable male clad in a black jersey, a gray three-quarter pants and a blue shoulder bag heading in the western direction.

When he saw the Police vehicle approaching he started to act in a suspicious manner. Two ranks immediately exited the vehicle and approached the said male. A search was  carried out on his person and the blue shoulder bag in which a black bulky plastic bag  was found which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

He was told of the offense committed, cautioned and arrested.

The 20-year-old unemployed man was escorted to the Providence Police Station along with the suspected narcotics where it was weighed in his presence and amounted to 71.3 grams.

The suspect is presently in custody pending charges.
