As The Imperial House celebrates its 10th anniversary of youth and community development in Guyana, the organisation has announced that the Miss Guyana Teen Scholar Pageant will not be staged in 2026 as it undergoes a period of strategic restructuring and renewal.
Launched in 2019 as a scholarship-driven empowerment programme for adolescent girls, the pageant was created to provide educational opportunities, leadership development, and community engagement for young women across Guyana.
Over the past seven productions, the programme has evolved into one of Guyana’s recognised youth development platforms, producing young women who have served as ambassadors for education, volunteerism, leadership, and social advocacy. The 2026 production would have crowned the organisation’s eighth titleholder.
Following a review of this year’s applications and participation trends, the organisation recognised the need to modernise and restructure the programme to better reflect the realities and interests of today’s young women.
Among the key observations was the increasing number of applicants falling outside of the current age requirements, highlighting the need to revisit and expand the eligibility framework. The geographic distribution of applicants has also become an important consideration as the organisation seeks to ensure wider national inclusivity and stronger representation from communities across Guyana.
As a result, The Imperial House will begin consultations on revising the pageant’s criteria, including adjustments to the age category and participation structure. These changes will also lead to a rebranding of the programme to better reflect its renewed vision.
The organisation also acknowledges the Government of Guyana’s commendable move to make education at the University of Guyana and all tertiary institutions free, as well as providing education grants and waivers to CSEC examinations. As a non-profit social enterprise committed to educational advancement, The Imperial House will engage its sponsors and partners in discussions on reshaping the scholarship component to continue meaningfully supporting future winners.
The Imperial House has always believed that youth programmes must evolve alongside the needs of the young people they serve. While we are saddened not to stage the pageant this year, we are equally excited about the opportunity to strengthen and reimagine the programme for the future.
The Imperial House extends sincere gratitude to its sponsors, supporters, candidates, families, volunteers, media partners, and the Guyanese public for their unwavering support over the years. The organisation also thanks the 2026 applicants for their interest and enthusiasm.
While we pause this year to re-work the MGTSP Pageant Programme, a 10th anniversary MGTSP Grant will be awarded to an applicant from the TIH membership who submits a proposal and demonstrates their ability to develop a product or service in line with our
programme goals. Applicants for the 2026 scholarship will be fully refunded and engaged on other TIH programmes.
Further announcements regarding the programme’s future direction will be made in due course.
