By Lurlene Nestor- Seriously! Politics is about people!

Opposition leader elected 4 months after elections, parliament shutdown for the same period, as Executive operate without legislative oversight. Region 10 to date without regional leadership, Region 4 politically muscled away by the ruling party, which by the way leads 7 of the remaining 8 regions.

Southport Inquiry: a real one, real results

The Minister of Local Government has surreptitiously imposed her authority on the M&CC of the capital city, and those left to contend with 16+12+1 are yet to find the political will, trust and interest to develop a working relationship to confront the executive lawlessness that is before them. Instead petty commentary about people’s looks, choice beverages, inexperience, and all sorts of immature “throw talks” actions are on display.

All you see is political bluster and a misguided, ill-fated posture that is likely to derail or further erase any possibility of a united opposition, a situation that only benefits the ruling party, which is already milking the confusion, to their benefit. The question of who are the adults in the room, remains. I’ve been around the political arena long enough to know that sometimes it’s better to take a step back and recalibrate in order to move forward.

I’ve done it and I’ve seen real leaders do it! But that approach require mature thinking, not the petty, selfish, egotistical kind. Arrogance, bullying and making condescending remarks towards others you hope to work with is a bonehead, retarded tactic that will backfire. You can’t want unity but exhibit divisive actions.

National Elections in Guyana come every five years, local government every two, those facts can’t be taken for granted, as the very people who voted for you today and those you want to vote for you tomorrow are looking at you! Don’t underestimate their ability to draw conclusions that may work against you.

Any prudent politician who respects voters will always factor in voters’ perceptions in their political calculations in order to guide their actions. It is true that this current political reality is new to modern day Guyana, there is a lot that has happened we can either use the circumstances before us to grow or decline.

Unfortunately, I, like many others, have sacrificed too much to settle for decline so I choose to grow, hence I refuse to be silent! Too much is at stake! Those who know better have a responsibility to do better!

The same thinking that leads to your fall can’t pick you up! This is basic common sense, ain’t need a university education to know that!
