(Caribbean Life)-Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed that a 16-member West Indies Women’s squad is currently in Newport, Wales, taking part in a 10-day preparation camp from May 14–23 as they continue building towards the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.

The camp is seen as an important stage in the team’s preparations and is designed to help players adjust to the conditions ahead of the global tournament, which begins on June 5.

The camp focuses on improving skills, tactics, fitness, and teamwork ahead of a tri-nation T20 series in Ireland against Ireland and Pakistan, giving the players valuable experience in conditions similar to those expected during the World Cup.

The West Indies Women head into this preparation period with growing confidence following their semi-final appearance at the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The team believes it has developed greater experience, depth, and maturity over the past two years.

CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe highlighted the importance of hosting the camp in Wales and playing the tri-series in Ireland.

“The opportunity to train in the United Kingdom and then also get the experience of playing competitive matches in Ireland in similar conditions immediately before the start of the June 5 tournament is invaluable,” Bascombe said.

“This period will be utilised to help the squad gel, cement game plans, and remain connected. We are looking forward to a great showing by several key veterans and the emergence of our future stars, on the back of this extended preparation.”

The training camp in Wales is part of the West Indies Women’s planned preparation programme, which has already included white-ball series against Sri Lanka and Australia earlier this year. The upcoming tri-nation series gives the team another opportunity to improve and perform under pressure before the World Cup.

The West Indies Women will begin the tri-series against Ireland on May 28 and play their final group match against Pakistan on June 3. They will then travel back to England for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where they open their campaign against New Zealand on June 13.

Training camp participants are Aaliyah Alleyne, Eboni Brathwaite, Shermaine Campbelle, Jahzara Claxton, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Jannillea Glasgow, Shawnisha Hector, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Mandy Mangru, Hayley Matthews, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharack, Stafanie Taylor.
