Guyana secured the number-one playoff seed on Wednesday night, September 9, when it defeated the Saint Lucia Kings by four wickets.

Saint Lucia was dismissed for 119 in 18.5 overs before Guyana reached 122 for six in 18.3 overs.

Captain Imran Tahir was instrumental in the victory, taking five wickets for 17 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed three for 13.

Quentin Sampson then produced a stunning late assault, scoring an unbeaten 37 from only 11 deliveries.

The victory moved the Warriors to 14 points and ensured that no other team could overtake them at the top of the preliminary-round standings.

Tonight’s match therefore has different significance for the two teams.

For Guyana, the encounter provides an opportunity to maintain momentum and prepare for the playoffs.

For Trinbago, the match is considerably more important as the Knight Riders continue their battle for a postseason place.

The Warriors will also be looking to give their home supporters another victory before completing their remaining preliminary-round fixture away from Providence.

Guyana’s strong campaign has made the Amazon Warriors one of the tournament’s leading sides, but the playoff stage will ultimately determine whether their regular-season dominance translates into a championship.

Tonight’s encounter consequently offers Guyana another opportunity to sharpen its game ahead of the more important matches to come.
