The government is expected to soon begin direct engagement with investors as it advances plans for a number of eco-lodge and resort developments across the country.

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues indicated that the review of proposals submitted by interested developers is nearing completion. A technical committee has been assessing expressions of interest, and only those projects considered financially viable and sustainable will move forward to the next stage of discussions.

The planned developments are part of a wider strategy to expand Guyana’s tourism industry, with a focus on environmentally sustainable investments and the promotion of eco-tourism.

Last year, the ministry invited both local and international investors to submit proposals for projects in multiple regions, including coastal and hinterland areas. Several locations were identified for potential development, targeting areas with strong tourism potential.

Officials say the initiative is also aimed at stimulating economic activity and creating employment opportunities, particularly in communities outside of the main urban centres.

With the evaluation process almost complete, the government is preparing to determine which proposals will proceed to active negotiations and eventual development.
