Life is full of unforeseen turns, and occasionally, the most inspiring stories come from the most hopeless circumstances. Meet 22-year-old Floretta Spooner, an accident survivor who overcame adversity, used her misfortune as a springboard, and set out on an entrepreneurial path. Village Voice News spoke with Spooner about her life and business.

In addition to transforming her own life, her unrelenting tenacity, fortitude, and entrepreneurial spirit have also served as an inspiration to numerous others. Floretta lost her father at a young age and is an alumnus of St. George’s Secondary School. She founded Natural Beauty Products.gy.

Spooner has triumphed over a generational curse, drug addiction, poverty, depression, sadness, anxiety, and being in a coma.

Currently, Spooner is a student at Computer World, pursuing a diploma in business management and computer studies. She is also a model for the Elite Pageant Company.

“Some say there is no God, while others say there is. However, I am a living testimony that God exists. It was my calling to establish my brand, to do what God wills for my life. With that, I was determined, confident, and courageous to bring it into existence. Lack of financial resources also motivated me to launch this business,” Spooner told this publication.

Two months after her 18th birthday, she had her first accident. This accident left Spooner in a coma for three weeks, her left side was also paralyzed. The traumatic aftereffects of the accident left Spooner with memory loss, brain and nerve damage.

Spooner mentioned, “Two years after that incident, I was unemployed, worried, and scared. I did the only thing I could’ve done at that time, pray. After praying and fasting for months, I received my first vision. At first, I was uncertain, so I asked for signs and wonders. The vision I received stated that I should humble myself and seek the kingdom of heaven. At that point, I was not in a church, and I’m still not in a church, but I did listen.

Further, she added, “I was unemployed for a year, and I joined pageantry, that’s where I saw my vision. Financial constraints held me back. I shared my vision with those around me. They mocked and laughed at me, and the words they spewed hurt me deeply. I utilised Facebook and asked for assistance, for my health and wellness. A few people helped at that moment, and I am grateful to those who assisted.”

It was the most agonising experience I’ve ever gone through because I was already depressed. Although it was only 10 months, that continued for a period that felt like years.

Her business struggled to get recognition. At the age of 21, she received some money from her late father’s life insurance. It was sufficient for her to carry out God’s following instructions. In an effort to market her business, she began contacting promoters and models she modelled with to help spread the word about the company.

Less than ten clients were received, which she was appreciative of.

“I began gathering all of my documents in December and January. When I ran out of money in March after finishing my paperwork, I panicked and became irate. As usual, I prayed and pleaded for guidance. I had a subsequent vision that instructed me to promote, which I did. As a result, I acquired more clients,” she stated.

Before her business came into existence, she reached out to a gym on the East Coast, to ask if she could utilise the space to improve her physical appearance. While suffering from depression and anxiety, Spooner had no one to help her, so she prayed and cried out to God, and like always, he got her through life’s challenges.

Floretta intends to launch a factory in the future that will provide additional services in addition to producing natural goods. These goods will be shipped to the Caribbean and other international markets.

These products don’t employ bleaching agents, so you can expect to feel and see improvements with only one usage.

Spooner is convinced that she is carrying a miracle that will someday be of use to people. Her initial vision also foretold her future prosperity and happiness. She is unsure of when she will be successful, but she is not going to stop until she reaches that point because she knows what she saw was genuine.

“We will face many challenges in our lives; it won’t be easy. That’s life, it’s not supposed to be easy; it’s supposed to be meaningful. I believe that we can do all things if we just believe and work towards them. We all have gifts; we are creative; we can create a life for ourselves and our families; if it’s pure, God will get the glory; we will bring it to pass; he’s too faithful,” she said.

“We speak of all the negative things that happen in our lives, and we aren’t grateful for who we are today because of it. These opportunities allow us to be better people and see life from a different angle. Our story, our experiences can and will one day be an inspiration for someone. You are the author of your story, and how your life ends all depends on you.

Do remember that it’s not where you came from, but where you’ll go.  Be proud of yourself, appreciate everyone around you, and never forget God was there when no one was,” is Spooners’ advice for youths.
