EnerMech Secures Key Subsea Role on ExxonMobil’s Whiptail Project Offshore Guyana

EnerMech has been selected by Saipem to provide subsea pre-commissioning services for the Whiptail offshore development in Guyana, a major project within ExxonMobil’s Stabroek Block, the companies confirmed on Tuesday.

Saipem, a leading Italian multinational, provides engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) services, as well as drilling and offshore project management, for the global oil and gas industry. Founded in 1957 and closely linked to energy group Eni, Saipem operates in more than 50 countries with a workforce exceeding 30,000, specialising in large-scale onshore and offshore energy projects.

The contract brings EnerMech into the Whiptail project for the first time, expanding its growing portfolio in Guyana after earlier work on other Stabroek developments such as Liza Phase Two, Payara, Yellowtail and Uaru.

Under the agreement, EnerMech will undertake a comprehensive pre-commissioning programme that includes cleaning and hydrotesting subsea risers and flowlines. The scope also covers monitoring of umbilical load-out, transit and installation from offshore construction vessels, along with dynamic umbilical lay monitoring and post-installation testing carried out from the FPSO.

EnerMech chief executive Charles Davison Jr said the award represents “another important milestone in our Guyana growth story”.

The company noted that the Whiptail contract complements its ongoing investment in Guyana, including plans for a new Georgetown-based facility aimed at improving response times and supporting future offshore operations.

ExxonMobil currently operates four FPSOs in the Stabroek Block — Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, Prosperity and the recently commissioned One Guyana — giving the offshore development an installed production capacity exceeding 900,000 barrels of oil per day.
