The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed Welsh coach Toby Radford as the national team’s batting coach and Robert Ahmun as strength and conditioning trainer, the board said on Tuesday, ahead of a three-match Twenty20 international series against the West Indies.
Radford, a former first-class cricketer with Middlesex and Sussex, joins the team with extensive coaching experience, including previous roles with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He is currently head coach of the Dhaka Capitals in the Bangladesh Premier League.
He was also part of the West Indies coaching staff during their ICC T20 World Cup triumph in 2012 and their Test series victory over England in 2019, and has coached county sides Middlesex and Glamorgan.
Ahmun, an elite strength and conditioning specialist from Wales, most recently served as head of performance science and medicine at the England and Wales Cricket Board, where he oversaw physical preparation and medical services for England’s national teams.
The ACB said the appointments were made as Afghanistan prepare for a three-match T20I series against the West Indies, scheduled for Jan. 19, 21 and 22 in Dubai.
The board added that recruitment for the positions of head coach and spin bowling coach is ongoing.
Following the West Indies series, Afghanistan will travel to compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
