The Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) reaffirms its commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability in public office.Â
Based on public reporting and statements now on record, serious and unresolved questions remain surrounding the acquisition of a US$540,000 property in the United States of America linked to Minister Susan Rodrigues.Â
The issue is not ownership.Â
The issue is source of funds, disclosure, and consistency of public explanations.Â
According to official government salary scales, a Junior Minister’s net monthly salary is GYD 1,608,214, resulting in estimated net earnings of approximately GYD 96.5 million over five years (2020–2025).Â
At current exchange rates, the overseas property in question is valued at approximately GYD 113.4 million, a figure that exceeds five years of total net ministerial earnings, before accounting for:Â
- Cost of living and personal expensesÂ
- Taxes already deductedÂ
- Ownership of multiple local propertiesÂ
- Ownership of vehicles widely regarded as luxury assetsÂ
This discrepancy is material and cannot be dismissed with general assurances.Â
In addition to the foreign property, Minister Rodrigues is alleged to own several multimillion-dollar properties in Guyana and a fleet of high-value vehicles, raising a legitimate public question:Â
How can such assets be financed on a minister’s salary alone?
The Guyanese people deserve clear and verifiable answers.Â
The ALP therefore calls on Minister Susan Rodrigues to:Â
- Publicly account for the full source of funds used in the acquisition of the overseas property and other major assets.Â
- Release a complete and verifiable paper trail, including mortgage instruments, loan agreements, repayment schedules, and declared assets.Â
- Confirm compliance with all statutory disclosure requirements, including filings with the Integrity Commission.Â
- Submit to an independent review of the transactions to remove any perception of conflict or influence.Â
If Minister Rodrigues is unable or unwilling to provide full and verifiable financial records within a reasonable timeframe, she must step aside from ministerial office to allow for an independent review.Â
Public office demands transparency, not partial answers.Â
Where clarity is absent, trust collapses.Â
The Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity will continue to pursue accountability in the interest of integrity and public confidence.
