– BMC cancels weekend round of games
Vice President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Hilbert Foster and the executive committee of Big Man Cricket (BMC) said they are saddened at the tragic passing of recently elected Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board, Pretipaul Jaigobin.
Jaigobin died when the vehicle he was in crashed on the Mabura Road last week. His death has sent shockwaves throughout the cricket fraternity. Ex-GCB executive Raj Singh, in a statement said, “Jai was always well known for his deep love and knowledge for the game and the entire fraternity will miss his vast experience and knowledge of the game”.
“Sincerest condolences are also extended to Mr. Fizul Bacchus, former President of the Guyana Cricket Board and current President of the Essequibo Cricket Board, his family, relatives, and friends on the untimely demise of his spouse a few days ago also.
Also, the BMC executive Committee have opted to postpone all cricket activities this weekend to facilitate in honour of Jaigobin.
Meanwhile, Foster the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) President in a social media post, spoke of his last minutes shared with his old friend. “He was the last person I spoke to as we departed the election venue on Monday last. His final words would always be in my memory “Travel safe my friend, we have so much work to do”
“If I knew those were to be your final words to me, I would have stayed a little longer with you and cherished your presence a little longer. Losing you just after your dream was achieved Jai, is very difficult and my knees felt weak when our President told me about your death”. Foster said.
“You died while working for our country and the less fortunate. On behalf of every one of us you left behind so soon, I want to assure you that we would work hard to make sure that Guyana cricket would rise to the top again and we would make sure that your memory would live on forever”. Foster, who also wears the cap of Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) president, further expressed sympathy on behalf of the Ancient County club to the wife, children and family of the late cricket executive.
