Ronald “Ron” Owen Robinson, one of Guyana’s most revered figures in theatre and broadcasting, passed away last evening, December 11, 2025. A household name whose voice and presence helped shape the nation’s cultural identity for generations, Robinson’s career spanned more than seven decades in drama and six decades in broadcasting.

Born in Georgetown, Robinson began acting at a young age and went on to become a leading dramatist, theatre director, producer, radio and television announcer, and scriptwriter. He co‑founded The Theatre Company and was a driving force behind long‑running productions such as The Link Show and the much‑loved Stretched-Out Magazine, a satirical year‑end television favourite that entertained Guyanese families each Christmas season.

Robinson also played a major role in broadcasting, reading Guyana’s first television newscast and completing thousands of interviews over his prolific career. He was honoured with numerous awards, including the National Award of the Golden Arrow of Achievement, and was recognised as a cultural icon at events such as CARIFESTA XV earlier this year.

Beyond the arts, he was active in community life, including service in scouting and other civic organisations. Robinson’s contributions helped nurture Guyanese talent and bring national stories to life on both stage and airwaves. His passing marks the end of an era for Guyana’s arts and media landscape.
