The American Chamber of Commerce of Guyana (AMCHAM Guyana) has elected Mrs. Iman Khan-Cummings as its first female President, marking a historic moment for the private sector organization. The election took place during the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on December 5 and signals a new chapter in AMCHAM’s efforts to strengthen commercial ties between Guyana and the United States.

In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Khan-Cummings pledged to expand bilateral cooperation and advance shared business interests. She affirmed her commitment to “continue deepening the commercial relationship between Guyana and the U.S.,” while underscoring her focus on “building bridges, expanding opportunity, and promoting shared prosperity for businesses across both countries.”

Executive Director Richard Leo delivered a review of AMCHAM’s key achievements over the past year, highlighting the Chamber’s growing influence in facilitating trade and investment. Among the accomplishments was AMCHAM’s first outbound trade mission to the Caribbean Business Conference, which created new avenues for Guyanese and American companies. He also noted the June 30 signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service to enhance cooperation in business matchmaking, market intelligence, and trade support.

The meeting also recognized outgoing President Mr. Devindra Kissoon for his leadership during a period of institutional strengthening, financial stability, and membership expansion. Ms. Tandi Rampersaud received commendation for her contributions to elevating U.S.–Guyanese economic collaboration.

U.S. Ambassador Nicole Theriot extended gratitude to Mr. Kissoon for his service and voiced the Embassy’s support for Mrs. Cummings’ presidency, expressing confidence in continued commercial growth under her leadership.

AMCHAM Guyana also announced the election of its 2025–2027 Board of Directors, which includes representatives from major U.S. and Guyanese enterprises.
