Yonette Blair, Proprietor of Yonette’s Skin-care Empire

There is a lot of different ways in which one can enhance self-love, and one such way is through having a skin-care routine, this is according to Yonette Blair, Proprietrix of Yonette’s Skin-care Empire.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Blair was just a teacher at the Mackenzie High School with 12 years of teaching experience. Teaching Mathematics, English Langugae and Literature was Blair’s passion, and even though teaching came with challenges for her, she still thought of it as something fun to do.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic surfaced it allowed Blair to discover another of her passions, one for self-love and skincare.

The 33-year-old began using her time to create skin-care products for herself and what was a personal search for great skin, spanned into a business.
In June 2020, Blair used her skills and knowledge obtained from her business studies at the Mackenzie High School and founded her small business, Yonette’s Skin-care Empire.

“During quarantine, I had nothing to do so I started taking care of myself, devising products to use on myself and I would get compliments. I then made some products for some persons and they started recommending my products to people and that is how the business started,” Blair recalled.

The first products by Blair were the ‘Baking soda scrub’ and ‘Turmeric scrub.’ Presently she also produces more than eight products including a ‘Dark spot Corrector gel’, ‘Dark- spot Corrector Cream’, ‘Face and Body Scrub’, Black-seed and Chebe Vaseline’, ‘Toning Scrub and Cream, ‘Carrot and lemon oil, ‘Carrot and lemon serum’, face cleansers and herbal soaps.

Yonette’s Skin-care Empire’s best sellers are the Carrot and Lemon Serum, Dark-spot Corrector Gel, and the Face and Body Scrub are the best sellers.

The Carrot and lemon Serum targets hyperpigmentation and results in soft glowing skin; the Dark-spot Corrector Gel targets dark spots and areas about the skin, and the Face and Body Scrub cleanses the pores, removes black or white-head, and exfoliates the skin.

According to the mother of one, skin-care is important to one’s self-love journey which is why she created products that will help persons build their self-esteem by looking good and feeling good.

She added that creating a skin-care routine is important because consistency is key when taking care of one’s skin or entire being in general.

The entrepreneur noted that she is motivated by the before and after photos and reviews she receives from her customers.

“This product is magic in a bottle. I have never seen my skin look this clean before. I am always skeptical about these beauty products that promise all kinds of amazing things but I am happy I took a leap of faith with yours. Truly please with the results,” are the words of one of Blair’s satisfied customers.

Another customer who wished to remain anonymous said, “I used the scrub on my face and it is perfection. I have very dry skin but this scrub has left my face very moisturized…Definitely a great product.”

Like any other entrepreneur, Blair do encounter challenges. She told Village Voice GY that Guyana do not have some of the raw materials she uses, as such, she is forced to securing products from overseas which can be costly.

The Lindener indicated that her clients stem from Berbice, Linden, Bartica, Corentyne, Georgetown and Essequibo. She also has potential customers outside of Guyana, as such, she hopes to expand Yonette’s Skin-care Empire to meet the needs of every customer effectively and efficiently.

“I am looking at the Regional Market and I even want to I want to beyond that and do International Shipping because I have persons who want products from outside but I am not finding an agent who would actually distribute my products so I am in search of that,” said the woman who says she balances entrepreneurship and teaching well.
