The 2025 Haliborange Giving Tree Initiative officially kicked off Saturday at Massy Stores Mega, as First Lady Arya Ali placed the inaugural ornament on the tree and offered her heartfelt endorsement. Now in its second year, the campaign aims to support children receiving care at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by helping to fund more nurturing, child-friendly spaces.

This year, Haliborange and Massy Distribution are working to raise G$1.5 million to build an Indoor Mini Play Zone in the hospital’s paediatric ward—a safe, bright area where children can play, reduce anxiety, and find emotional comfort during their treatments. Hospital officials stress how play supports healing and helps make the clinical setting less intimidating for young patients.

The public can contribute by purchasing any Haliborange product at Massy Stores Mega, Providence, or Giftland. For every purchase, 5% of the sale goes to the Giving Tree fund—and Massy Stores (Guyana) Inc. will match that donation, doubling the impact. All proceeds will go to GPHC on Christmas Day, when care packages will also be handed out to the children.

Speaking at the event, First Lady Ali praised the initiative’s alignment with her office’s mission of ensuring safe, caring environments for children, no matter where they live. She also thanked Haliborange and Massy Distribution for demonstrating genuine compassion and staying committed to the well‑being of young patients.

Bhashkaranand Singh, Sales Director for Massy Distribution, emphasized the company’s broader commitment to the community: “At Massy Distribution, corporate social responsibility is not an obligation, it is a core part of who we are,” he said. He added that every organisation, regardless of size, “has a responsibility to help improve the communities it serves.”

Christpen Bobb‑Semple, Assistant Vice President & General Manager of Massy Stores (Guyana) Inc., highlighted the empowerment aspect of the campaign. “We are always excited about initiatives that allow our customers to participate in being a Force for Good,” he said, noting that this partnership is a deeply meaningful expression of Massy’s values of “Love and Care.”

Last year, the Giving Tree brought holiday joy to children around Guyana. This year, the focus shifts to a lasting contribution to the healthcare system: by helping to build a dedicated play space in GPHC’s paediatric ward, the initiative aspires to bring comfort, hope, and healing to children and their families during difficult times.
