Team Guyana delivered an impressive performance at the CAREBACO Senior Championships 2025, held in Trinidad and Tobago from November 1–4, earning multiple podium finishes in both singles and doubles events.

Leading the charge was Akili Haynes, who secured third place in the Men’s Singles and another third place in Mixed Doubles, partnering with Priyanna Ramdhani.

However, the tournament took a dramatic turn during the Women’s Singles Finals when Ramdhani sustained a painful knee injury while competing for the gold medal.

Despite the setback, Ramdhani showed remarkable determination throughout the championship, earning two silver medals — one in the Women’s Singles and another in the Women’s Doubles with partner Chequeda De Boulet.

Ramdhani began the Women’s Singles Final in dominant form, winning the first set 21–13. But midway through the second set, tragedy struck when her kneecap slipped out of place while she was leading 14–11. The injury forced her to retire from the match, handing the gold to her opponent but securing silver for the Guyanese star, who had been in excellent form throughout the tournament. She was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

Team Guyana’s results:

  • Men’s Singles: 3rd Place – Akili Haynes

  • Women’s Singles: 2nd Place – Priyanna Ramdhani

  • Mixed Doubles: 3rd Place – Akili Haynes & Priyanna Ramdhani

  • Women’s Doubles: 2nd Place – Priyanna Ramdhani & Chequeda De Boulet

Team Guyana extended well wishes for Ramdhani’s recovery and praised both athletes for their resilience, dedication, and strong representation of Guyana on the international badminton stage.
