Dear
His Worship, The Mayor,
City Councilors,
City Engineer,
Town Clerk,
Namaste.
For your ease of reference kindly find attached documented objections from the residents of Subryanville  to Mae’s School’s exclusive usage of the eastern portion of Farnum’s Playing Field in or around 2018. At that time the M&CC complied with the legal requirements of the citizen’s right to the free and full enjoyment of the green space named after the Chairman of the Kitty & Alexanderville Council, Cecil Farnum. At that time the M&CC also honored the consultation process with the residents. It should be noted that football clubs from Kitty, South Ruimveldt, Agricola and other neighbourhoods in the Greater Georgetown area use this recreational ground as do other members of the public not resident in Subryanville.
The Ministry of Sports has recently made improvements to this playing field with the addition of lights and renovation of the perimeter fence, inter alia. Has this Ministry of Sports been notified/consulted about the leasing of actively used public space to a for-profit fee-paying school. This playing field also falls under their jurisdiction, and their programs may be affected. An uninsured for-profit school which was destroyed by fire, whose origin was the failure to address a pre-existing electrical issue, has been granted this lease for an unknown duration of an actively used public space. It was also in breach of the covenant on the transport. Even in the ongoing construction the lack of duty of care is evident; in the amount of plastic strewn in all surrounding drains and around the ground. The Ministry of Sports is copied herewith and may review email trail hereinunder. Kindly note in the attached photographs taken on 8 September 2025, the proximity of the building to the football goal area. Does the permit allow the erection of a dividing fence between the two sections of the ground? Also, of note to date no work has begun on the site of the school in Third Avenue, where the fire occurred.
Is it now a policy of the M&CC to lease actively used public parks and playing fields to private-for-profit businesses and individuals at the expense of free prior and informed consent (FPIC) of the residents and other beneficiaries?
Further to the visit of the representatives of the residents with His Worship, The Mayor, on 8 September 2025, we trust that further to the claim that no email was received and the resending to the same email address given at meeting that the requested application and permit shall be available for collection on 9 September 2025. We shall be delivering hard copies of these emails to the relevant sections of M&CC.
Once again we remind and reiterate that:
We, the residents of Subryanville demand the following:
  • The stoppage of the current ongoing construction at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field by 8 September 2025
  • The removal of all building material at the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field by 10 September 2025
  • The cancellation of any permits to build and/or use the eastern end of Farnum Playing Field by 10 September 2025
  • The withdrawal of any permits and/or permission given to Mr. and/or Mrs. Sugrim and/or Mae’s School viz a viz Farnum Playing Field by 10 September 2025.
Further please attend:-
Invitation to:
Event: A meeting between Kitty City Councilor, Councilor R. Dyal and  residents of Subryanville along with other beneficiaries of Farnum’s Playing Field
Date: Tuesday 9 September 2025
Place: Farnum’s Playing Field, Church Road, Subryanville
Time: 5pm
Kind regards,
The Residents of Subryanville
