China hopes to work with Afghanistan to promote the development of ties, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Thursday.

When asked at a regular news conference whether China recognizes the Afghan interim government, Mao said China follows a friendly policy toward all Afghan people.

Mao’s remarks came after Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived at Kabul on Wednesday to visit Afghanistan and attend the sixth trilateral foreign ministers’ dialogue among China, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Also on Wednesday, Wang met with Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund and Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, respectively, and had talks with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. China Daily
