The AFC applauds the appointment of Dr. Arif Bulkan to the bench of the Caribbean Court of  Justice (CCJ). Dr. Bulkan has distinguished himself as a Jurist and as an Activist for human  rights and justice throughout the Caribbean, and we have no doubt that his experiences formed  as a Prosecutor, Magistrate, Private Practitioner, and Judge, will hold him in good stead for the  onerous responsibilities of being a Judge on the region’s apex Court.

Dr. Arif Bulkan comes from a family that has served its country with distinction and dedication,  and his values and ideals have been shaped by his early childhood upbringing in Guyana, and  later, further beyond. All these, we expect will allow Justice Bulkan to bring a sound and  informed view when rendering his opinions on the divers matters that come before him.

All Guyana should feel deep pride at this appointment and accomplishment, as Justice Dr. Arif  Bulkan joins the pantheon of Guyanese Judges who have previously served on the Court in the  persons of Madam Justice Desiree Bernard and Mr. Justice Duke Pollard. We expect Justice  Bulkan to uphold the high standards set by his predecessors in particular, and of the Judiciary in  general.
