Nortons warns that PPP bad behavior will be met with PNC bad behavior

By GHK Lall-Norton warns PPPC of “bad” behavior if elections are rigged” (Demerara Waves, August 16-2025).  I know the elections weather started out hot then got hotter.  Now Opposition Leader, Mr. Aubrey Norton has added “bad” to the forecast.  Does American Airlines still have any space left?  More anxiously, what does he mean by “bad” behavior as a reaction to rigging?  Is “bad” good?  How bad will “bad” be?

Another opposition campaign leader, Dr. David Hinds had boomed thunder earlier: “There will be no peace in the valley” should the PPP’s intent on rigging the elections materialise.  And, ‘we are ready to do battle.’  From “no peace” to “do battle” to “bad” these supersensitive elections of 2025 are getting ruffer and rougher.  American Airlines, am I being heard clearly?

The Sequence Enlightens, The Story Darkens

I have my own bad news to share.  It is clear that the PPP is frightfully aware that it doesn’t have the numbers.  For the last two years, it has been working at gymnastics with the census results, but always landing in the same place -on its face.  The PPP falls short of hitting the bar, because the difference between East Indians and African Guyanese (hope I have both right) is so invisible as to be inseparable.  Confession time: the president finally got one right, but not in a way that he likes: a different version of One Guyana.

Since the PPP doesn’t have the numbers, which it doesn’t deny, what does it have?  Beefed-up Commonwealth voters.  Legitimate.  Overseas arranged Guyanese voters.  Approved.  Venezuelans, some supplied by Maduro, some pushed by economics.  Trouble.  GECOM’s list has more Guyanese voters as a percentage of the population than India and China put together.  The concerns now range and rage from who is illegal, to who is alive, to who is imaginary.  I must say that this is one funny country.

When cost-of-living is killing Guyanese, there are no citizens feeling such a blow.  But when it is the roll of voters, there are Guyanese coming out of holes in the wall, out of the ceiling, and out of the graveyard.  Whoever said that the vice president doesn’t know his elbow from his eyeball (is a bum), they are the biggest bums.  Even when he is a loser, the man insists he’s a winner.  The problem is that others see themselves as election winners, also.  WIN thinks it’s in.  The census and PPP antics give the PNC ideas.

Now up comes Aubrey Norton talking about “bad” behavior if the PPP so much as breathes or blinks rigging.  I think that the PPP setup the stage for this PNC throwdown and showdown, not necessarily in that order.  Somebody is itching for a fight, and it isn’t me.  I’m praying.  The PNC said biometrics, the PPP said no.  The PNC said new voters list, the PPP said no.  By the way, the PPP is GECOM, so let’s straighten that string.  Think of this.  Mingo of the PNC had put out his thick pieces of spreadsheet paper in 2020.

From 2020 to 2025, GECOM put out its decisions that are thinner than Saran foil wrap or greaseproof paper in the newspapers for the record.  Try this test, another GECOM record: when’s the last time that the PNC had one going in its favor?  Now the man puts his palm (print) on the record.  Bad behavior it will be in response to any PPP baad behavior.  The signs and portents say that that is what it will be.

The bad behavior has already begun, and the air is thick with plots to rig and response to the riggings.  In the language of the soul brothers of the late 60s, sometimes, bad is good.  Recall he’s a baad dude, or a baad mother’, from the soundtrack of Shaft.  Bad isn’t good today.  I don’t see how.

How serious is Aubrey Norton?  Just as serious as a hole in the head.  Does he have the manpower, the horsepower, and the willpower?  Though I left out firepower, I think all four are around.  Somebody has to be near to the oil wealth, although no one is so much as coming close to whispering about it.  The AFC change of heart re renegotiation doesn’t count; it’s long been out for the count.  But there is the fellow who has Bharrat, not the minister, behaving like Baryshnikov, the ballet dancer.

Like the Russia floorwalker, Bharrat foot deh pun fire, as inflamed by the Venezuelan puppet-Guyanese refugee, WIN Mohamed.  Oh boy, one banna jumping from he shadow, a second man talking about rigging, and a third already beleeve dat he WIN.  Guyana is the greatest!

Whichever way all this bad this and bad that unfolds, Guyana’s 2025 elections give every indication of being unforgettable.  Already is.
