On August 5th 2025 Nations School of Technology and the Ministry of Education agreed to partner to train 500 skilled tradesmen/women awarding them various awards from City and Guilds. These skillsets include the awards in Electrical Installation, Plumbing, AC/Refrigeration and Welding. Nations School of Technology completed the training of 500 welders through the Government’s Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) programme in early August 2025. Based upon the success with GOAL, the Ministry of Education has partnered with Nations School of Technology to further expand the programme to train a further 200 welders and 100 each of plumbers, AC/Refrigeration and electrical technicians between August and October 2025. Together, the Ministry of Education and Nations School of Technology will perform these trainings in Regions 3,4,5 and 6.

Nations Chief Operating Officer and Director of the School of Technology, Liam O’Toole, explained “In support of His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s drive to increase the pool of skilled tradesmen/women, Nations School of Technology became a registered centre for City and Guilds to offer courses that would help Guyanese attain international certification in the construction trades. We are proud to say that in the past year we have trained over 700 people in welding and a further 500 in skilled trades including plumbing, AC/refrigeration, masonry, carpentry, electrical installation and painting. We are thrilled to partner with the Ministry of Education to expand this programme further and to provide internationally accredited vocational training courses to students across the country.”

The first cohort of welders will complete their training on August 15th (picture attached below). Plumbing, Electrical and AC training courses will commence in Region 3 in the first week of September and will continue until the end of November 2025 where training will wrap up in Region 6.

Mr. O’Toole stated “Graduates who receive the Awards in Welding, Electrical Installation, AC/Refrigeration and Plumbing will have the skillsets for employment within the Oil and Gas, construction and mining sectors in Guyana. Additionally, the Ministry of Education has highlighted extensive positions available in the public sector performing maintenance on various infrastructure and development projects currently in development. We really must thank GOAL and the Ministry of Education for their continual support to facilitate Internationally Accredited courses to train students in Guyana to provide them with the skills and certification to allow them to gain employment in the many sectors that are growing at such a pace in Guyana. ”
