PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar says Trinidad and Tobago is committed to strengthening its long-standing relationship with the United States following what she described as productive discussions with a high-level US delegation.
In a post on her X account yesterday, Persad-Bissessar said the meeting explored opportunities to expand collaboration between the two countries, particularly in investment, economic development, and regional cooperation.
‘Our meeting reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between our two countries and focused on advancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including investment, economic development and regional collaboration,’ she wrote.
Persad-Bissessar said her Government remained committed ‘to deepening international partnerships that create opportunities, promote economic growth and improve the quality of life for the people of Trinidad and Tobago’.
She added T&T and the US would continue ‘to build on a relationship founded on mutual respect, shared values and a common commitment to prosperity and development for our peoples’. The Prime Minister was joined at the meeting by Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Sean Sobers, Attorney General John Jeremie, Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John, Minister of Finance Davendranath Tancoo, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Dr Roodal Moonilal, and Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence Dominic Smith.
The US delegation included Barbara Feinstein, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Caribbean Affairs and Haiti at the US Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs; Philip Kern, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Port of Spain; Caroline Vik, Chief Policy Officer at the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC); Ryan Berg of the DFC’s Office of Foreign Policy; Catherine Mignone of the DFC’s Office of the Chief Policy Officer; and Paloma Gonzalez, Deputy Director of the Office of Economic Policy and Summit Coordination at the US Department of State.
