BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Cricket West Indies is pleased to congratulate Team Barbados, who claimed the Rising Stars Men’s Under-19 50-over Championship title with a commanding six-wicket victory over USA Under 19 “1” in last Thursday’s final at Conaree Sports Club.
The triumph marked sweet redemption for Barbados, who had suffered a crushing 216-run defeat to the same USA “1” side earlier in the tournament.
They also completed a double sweep for the island after their women’s team captured the Under 19 crown last Saturday.
In Thursday’s final, Barbados’ bowling attack restricted USA “1” to 212 all out. Left-arm seamers Jakeem Pollard 3-42 and Carter 3-46 spearheaded the bowling effort, despite Sahil Garg’s 40 and Adnit Jhamb’s 38.
Barbados reached 215-4 in just 38.2 overs as captain Joshua Dorne led from the front with an unbeaten 55, while Shaquan Belle (45), Zachary Carter (34), and Micah Greenidge (32) provided crucial support.
Windward Islands secured third place with a 76-run victory over Jamaica while Guyana claimed fifth by defeating Trinidad & Tobago by five wickets. Leeward Islands finished seventh with a 66-run win over USA “2”.
Barbados Head Coach and former West Indies opener Sherwin Campbell expressed his satisfaction with the team’s championship performance.
“It’s always good to win tournaments. Last year, we won both tournaments, the Three-Day tournament and the 50-Over tournament, so it was good to come back and defend,”
Campbell shared.
Speaking on the team’s reaction to their fifth-round defeat to their final opposition as well as their female counterparts’ victory in the Under 19 Women’s tournament, Campbell remarked,
“That game was the first time we played against USA and I thought the conditions were more in their favor. We took all into consideration, reviewed the game, some areas that we can improve in as a team and some weak areas in the USA team as well.”
“The Women’s victory shows we have a good system in place in terms of development for the youngsters. We need to play more cricket at this level. This is a one-day tournament but to me, the most important is the three-day format so the players spend time and develop their skills over longer periods of time.”
“That’s required now because we have to start thinking with Test cricket in mind. It’s one area we need more focus.”
Barbados and USA “1” emerged as the tournament’s standout teams through the seven preliminary rounds.
USA “1” opened their account with a stunning 13 defeat of Jamaica. Despite being 109-8 at one point, Saharsh Shwethan’s 85 helped them reach 209. Utkarsh Srivastava’s 4-31 triggered Jamaica’s collapse from 117-0 to 196 all out.
Barbados began their title defense with a commanding 140-run victory over Guyana, Windward Islands edged Leeward Islands by five runs and Trinidad and Tobago narrowly got past USA “2” by one wicket.

Both unbeaten teams continued their dominance into the second round. Barbados registered the tournament’s then highest total of 295-8 against Trinidad and Tobago en route to the opposition’s dismissal for 151 all out.
USA “1” defeated Guyana by seven wickets. Windward Islands remained unbeaten with a four-run win over Jamaica, while Leeward Islands secured their first victory of the tournament, a three-wicket win against USA “2”.
USA “1” delivered another top tier performance in the third round as Sahil Garg punished Trinidad and Tobago with the tournament’s first century, 111 off 129 balls, as they tallied 300-8. Adnit Jhamb’s 5-57 helped dismiss T&T for 207 for a victory by 93 runs.
Barbados demolished Leeward Islands by eight wickets and Jamaica finally registered their first win, a five-run victory over Guyana. The match between the Windward Islands and USA “2” ended as a no-result due to persistent rain.
In the fourth round, Barbados secured a four-wicket win over Jamaica while USA “1” maintained their perfect record with an 81-run derby victory over USA “2”.
Earsinho Fontaine became the second centurion with an even 100, guiding Windward Islands to a 79-run win over Guyana. Trinidad and Tobago defeated Leeward Islands by 9 runs.

When USA “1” defeated defending champions Barbados by a massive 219 runs in round five., they established themselves as title favorites.
In other matches, Windward Islands defeated Trinidad and Tobago by six wickets thanks to Stephan Pascal’s 113, while Guyana edged the Leeward Islands by two wickets. Jamaica beat USA “2” by eight wickets in a rain-affected encounter.
USA “1” made it six wins out of six in their five-wicket win over the Leeward Islands.
Pacers Jakeem Pollard and Shaquan Belle took four wickets apiece to bowl Barbados to a 17-run victory over the Windward Islands, while David Dewar and Kev’Aundre Virgo both scored half centuries to propel Jamaica to a seven-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago. Guyana defeated USA “2” by nine-wickets.
The preliminary rounds concluded with a four-wicket victory for USA “1” over Windward Islands, while second placed Barbados recorded a 92-run victory over USA “2”.
Jamaica edged Leeward Islands by one wicket, while the contest between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago ended in a no-result.
